Loreth Beswetherick The Vancouver/Whistler 2010 Bid Corporation is looking for a Chief Executive Officer. The corporation, which is charged with developing Canada’s bid for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, hopes to have a candidate appointed by November this year. The hunt for a CEO is being handled by recruitment firm Ray & Berndtson/Tanton Mitchell. So far no new members have been added to the corporation’s inaugural board of nine directors, which includes Arthur Griffiths – chairman of the original Vancouver/Whistler Bid Society; Whistler Mayor Hugh O’Reilly; Vancouver Mayor Philip Owen, B.C. Tourism Minister Ian Waddell; Greg Greenough; Marion Lay; Bill McKerlich; Don Rosenbloom and the president of the Canadian Olympic Association, William J. Warren. The corporation replaced the Vancouver/Whistler bid society in June this year as the bid moved from the national into the international arena. It was expected the board would be increased to a total of 30 members over the summer. That is now expected to happen by the end of October. Valerie Noonan, executive assistant to Griffiths, said the board has compiled a list of people they are interested in asking to join. The wish-list will likely be debated at a board meeting slated for Oct. 22. The overall makeup of board members will be one-third nominated by Vancouver and Whistler and one third by the Canadian Olympic Association. The remaining third will be nominated by the province. The intent is to ensure the make-up reflects as broad a cross-section of the community as possible and that the corporation remains sensitive to the environment in the planning and organization of its pitch to host the Winter Olympic Games in 2010. The bid must be made to the International Olympic Committee in September 2002. The IOC’s decision will be made in September 2003.
