olympic bid ottawa

Two days after a splashy press conference at BC Place Stadium members of the board of the Vancouver-Whistler 2010 Bid Society made a presentation to all British Columbia Members of Parliament in Ottawa. The all-party breakfast briefing on Sept. 23 was to inform all B.C. MPs and senators about the Vancouver-Whistler bid. "I believe this was a first, to have all parties represented at a briefing in support of a common cause," Ian Waddell, minister of Small Business, Tourism and Culture, said in a release. "We felt it was important to secure the support of all the B.C. federal representatives on the Vancouver-Whistler bid," said bid society Executive Director Bruce MacMillan. "It was a great meeting and their enthusiasm and interest in helping us win the national bid is overwhelming." The Vancouver-Whistler Bid Society submits its official bid book to the Canadian Olympic Association in mid-October. COA members will decide on Nov. 21 which city — Calgary, Quebec City or Vancouver-Whistler — will carry Canada’s official bid for the 2010 Games to the International Olympic Committee. The IOC will award the 2010 Winter Olympics in 2003.
