UCI rankings for the road and mountain bike events as of April 30, 2004 determined the number of spots available for Canadian athletes in Athens. The CCA will soon name the athletes that will be taking those spots, taking into account UCI rankings and performances at the nationals.
For the road cycling events, the CCA will field a minimum of three men and three women, with three spots in the mens elite road race, three spots in the womens elite road race, and two spots in the womens elite time trial. The men didnt receive any spots in the time trial because the team is not ranked in the top 25 among nations, but could receive a spot if any nation does not use the spaces it is allotted.
Canada has also been allotted five spots, three women and two men, for mountain biking.
The track spots will not be allotted until after the Track Worlds at the end of May.
