Olympic venues to be included in Google Street View

Special imagery will allow Olympic fans around the world to see Games sites

Google's popular Street View will include the 2010 Olympic venues in Whistler and Vancouver, starting next week.

Image-capturing will occur in parts of Greater Vancouver and Whistler the week of Nov. 30. According to a release from Google, this will mark the first "special collection" of Street View imagery in Canada.

Street View in Google Maps contains still images only, and therefore these images will not be real-time.

As it does with all other Street View images globally, Google will apply facial and licence-plate blurring to protect people's privacy, and people will be able to report images for removal by clicking on "Report a problem" in any image.

More than 50,000 km of Canadian imagery are already available in Street View. Google claims that on the day of Street View's launch last month in Canada global traffic to Street View doubled.

Street View is a hugely popular feature of Google Maps which is available in more than 100 metropolitan areas around the world. It is also available in Google Earth and on Google Maps for Mobile.
