Do you know how much your hair is worth? If you’re folky, rootsy singer-songwriter Leanne Lamour, with waist length locks, it’s on the high side of $2,000, so she’s decided to go the big all-over head shave. Not for her own financial gain mind you, but to raise money for kids with cancer and give them access to one huge husk of hair to make wigs with.

As part of the Balding For Dollars program, Lamour, along with Uli’s in Creekside, is organizing one hairy hell-raising evening with a $25 lobster dinner, a live show with fiddler Kytami and DJ Sweetshot and a public chopping block for our local girl of rock thrown in.

Lamour’s been busy taking pledges around town for the June 6 slice and dice-a-thon and would love everyone to come out in support.

"It’s taken me 10 years to grow it down to my butt. I can’t believe I’m letting it all go," said Lamour, adding: "It’ll make surfing a lot easier I guess."

Lamour is encouraging anyone else who has thought about losing their long hair for a good cause to come down too.

"It’s unbelievable how expensive kids’ wigs are and giving them healthy long locks is the best present ever."

Lamour’s good friend Kytami (a.k.a. Kyla the fiddler) agreed to play on the night and if Lamour gets over the shock of being bald, she’ll sing a set as well.

"Maybe I’ll start rehearsing some hairy numbers in preparation," she said. Dinner will be at 7 p.m. with the head shave starting at 9 p.m. Tickets are for sale at Farfalla, Whistler Music, Katmandu, Fibre Options and Casa Tapas and Wine Bar and Uli’s at Creekside.
