It’s not too late to get Out There.
An ongoing exhibition from a trio of photographers – Ellen Aitkin, Nelly Levesque, and Jon Faulknor – opened on June 13 at BBK’s Pub in the Upper Village.
The exhibition lasts one month, when a new set of photographers will be on display.
Out There, which features shots from NYC to Namibia, continues at the BBK’s Pub venue throughout the summer.
The photo displays are subtle, with each photographer’s work hung on a different wall to highlight their collections.
The show was spearheaded by pub manager Stuart Brown, who says one goal of the exhibit was to give more exposure to Whistler photographers.
All three photographers and Brown were in attendance at the kick-off night for the exhibition.
"We’re offering a new venue for photographers to show and tell," says Atkin.
"There’s lots of opportunity for photographers to sell their work," she adds.
Three photographers display up to six images each, and there are still several spaces available.
Six floating frames are allotted per photographer, who can display images of any size, black and white or colour format.
Aitkin’s black and whites, like "Ski-In Ski-Out," use overlapping imagery to convey mountain culture images in ski resort towns.
Levesque explores the technicolour of a daytime sky or Nambia’s reddish soils in her photo collection. Her lens highlights small details such as the curvature of stones on a far off beach.
Meanwhile Faulknor’s coloured close-ups highlight landscape and fllora and fauna detail.
This exhibit is another example of the continued growth of visual arts displays in Whistler.
"It seems a lot of people that come to Whistler have a creative edge, whether it’s snowboarding, or filming the snowboarding," says BBK’s staffer Paul Rowe.
With hotels located nearby, the photographers hope to catch the attention of visiting tourists.
The exhibition continues through mid-July, when three new photographers will be featured.
