Palm wins triathlon award

After winning her age group at the Ironman Canada triathlon in Penticton and the Ironman Championships in Hawaii last year, Triathlon Canada awarded local endurance athlete Mae Palm the 2001 Athlete of the Year honours.

Palm received the award in the masters division of the long distance triathlon category.

Other triathletes awarded in Mississauga, Ontario on Feb. 15 include Olympic gold medalist Simon Whitfield, and 2000 Ironman champion Lori Bowden.

Palm, who at age 61 is a veteran of 99 marathons and several ultra-marathon races, only started competing in triathlons in 2000.
