Whistler Village will be full of flags and fireworks again this Canada Day.
For the sixth year, the 115 musicians of the Reynold’s High School Marching Band will be the featured attraction in the village parade. The RCMP will be out in their red serge dress along with a Musical Ride Horse and police dog.
The parade starts at 2 p.m. at Town Plaza, continues through the village, turning into Village Square and up to the Benchlands, with the parade ending as it turns from Blackcomb Way onto Lorimer Road. There will be a change to this year’s parade route, due to the Sunday’s Farmers’ Market in the Upper Village. The route will stay on Blackcomb Way and will not turn up onto the promenade between the Fairmont Chateau Whistler and Le Chamois hotels.
Anyone who wants to be part of the parade should join organizers at 1 p.m. on Northlands Boulevard behind the McDonald’s restaurant.
The Whistler Rotary Club will be judging parade participants in the "march past" at FORKS restaurant on Village Stroll.
At 3:45 p.m. the community is invited to join Mayor Hugh O’Reilly in front of Le Chamois Hotel for a welcome speech, singing of O Canada by the Whistler Children’s Choir and birthday cake courtesy of Market Catering.
The Westin Resort and Spa will also be celebrating the maple leaf with cake and coffee from noon to 2 p.m. The Delta Youth Orchestra puts on a complimentary performance from 2-3 p.m. All the fun takes place in the main lobby of the Westin.
And Canada Day will go out with a bang with fireworks at 10:30 p.m. The best place to observe is at the base of the Whistler and Blackcomb Gondolas. The fireworks have been made possible through donations by WhiskiJack Resorts, Tourism Whistler, Whistler-Blackcomb, Delta Whistler Village Suites and Delta Whistler Resort.
