The opening Telus Park Rider Sessions event of the year was an open jam in the Blackcomb Terrain Park on Sunday, with a session on the rails, a session on the big hit and the final session on the mini halfpipe. Judges scored every run and the rider/skier with the best score overall took the win.

The Whistler Blackcomb Freeriderz team came out to compete as well as the BC Freestyle B Team.

In Ski Boys 13 and Under, Luke Smart placed first overall, followed by Jackson Bathgate and Chase Ujejski.

In Ski Male 14 to 16 it was Joke Ondrik in first, followed by Zak Mousseau and Michael Granger.

Riley Culver won the Male Ski 17 and Over category, followed by Miguel Rodden and Thomas Rukowski.

In snowboard, Finn Finestone competed alone in the Snowboard Boys 13 and Under group.

Luki Lattin was first in Male Snowboard 14 to 16, followed by Keaton Gibson and Garret Lattin.

Marc Lander was the sole competitor in Male Snowboard 17-Plus.

The participants were eligible to win draw prizes from Telus, Showcase, Kombi, Atomic, Nintendo and Whistler Blackcomb. The Atomic skis were won by Luke Lister, and the Burton snowboard by Luke Lattin.

The next session on the calendar is on Dec. 28 — a slopestyle for skiers and boarders aged 13 and under taking place on Blackcomb.

Early registration is $29 at Whistler Blackcomb Guest Relations and day-of-event registration is available until 9:45 a.m. at the Rendezvous Lodge for $35. Early registration is recommended as events have sold out in the past.

There are two additional Park Rider Sessions slopestyle events on Jan. 8 and Feb. 19, and a halfpipe on Mar. 11.

Helmets are mandatory and mouth guards strongly recommended. Kids need a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.
