"People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can't find them, make them." – George Bernard Shaw.

Life coach Sheilaa Hite and Shaw would have been great friends.

They both base their life on a theory she calls a simple law of life — that whatever energy you put out into the world will determine what comes back to you.

Those caught in the new age buzz of the fast growing cult classic The Secret or read Michael Losier’s book The Law of Attraction might be nodding their head at the familiarity of the theory. However, Hite said her workshops take the centuries-old practice one step further.

There are plenty of chances to delve into Hite’s life skills with the renowned psychic and life coach hosting private consultations, panel discussions and workshops as part of Whistler Wellness Week.

The author will be signing books Saturday, May 12 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. She also joins an interactive panel called Life Purpose: Balancing Body, Mind and Spirit on the Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. and pairs up with Laurin Kyle Boyle for Prioritizing Your Passions from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. All events take place at the Telus Conference Centre.

Hite discusses what readers can find between the pages of her newest book Power Secrets: The Champion's Guide to Winning in All Areas of Your Life. She asserts everyone has the ability to make their dreams can come true, but you don’t need a star to wish on, only the self-realization of knowing how to turn “no” in your mind to “yes” in your reality.

“You will take a look at yourself from an objective perspective,” she said. “You will learn how to shift what hasn’t worked; understand old programming. And then how to take that energy and make it work for you… I teach people how to find the yes in someone else’s no.”

Finding that yes often requires an examination of the emotions tied to that no.

“The possibilities are numerous once we decide to act and not react.”– Bernard Shaw.

Hite shares an example of how quickly people shut down a dream with “no” talk. For example, someone wants to publish a book. The mind takes over telling the person, who are they to pursue such a lofty goal? Publishers won’t be interested. They’ll have to get an agent who won’t really get fully behind the project.

“The first thing people hear is they can’t do it,” she said. “They hear all the nos to their dream. It’s important to be aware of (the nos), but not base their choices on it.”

It’s all about attitude.

“Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine and at last you create what you will.” – Bernard Shaw.

Hite was that novice writer who now boasts an international showing of books including The Secrets of a Psychic Counselor and Power Secrets. She is working on a new book. They are all the product of acknowledging, but moving past the inner nos with the ease and accuracy of calling at just the right time to forgo the operator and publisher’s assistant to talk directly with the head of a major publishing company.

“I never pick up my phone,” he told her.

Hite always makes her own circumstances.

The natural teacher, whose advice was sought by people four times her age before she could call herself a teen, goes by many titles: author, motivational speaker, intuitive guide, counselor, certified clinical hypnotherapist, master of sacred ancient arts and modern-day alchemist.

She boasts an accuracy rate of more than 95 per cent with more than 4,000 clients, including those she consults at the Canyon Ranch Health Resort in the Berkshires. She works with everyone from celebrities, politicians and business professionals to clergy, military and homemakers. Paulette Cooper named her one of the 100 Top Psychics in America. She is a favourite guest and consultant on network television including NBC’s The Other Side, Leeza, E! Television and Entertainment Tonight.

She is a woman of vision with both feet firmly planted on the ground. Born to parents, one a marriage councilor, the other a psychologist, Hite’s life approach is a wonderful balance of the intuitive and the pragmatic, which is best illustrated in her company name, The Centre for Practical Spirituality.

“We can talk about living in the tree tops all we like, but no matter how spiritual we are, we still have to pay Internal Revenue Services and we still have to eat,” she said, laughing. “There is a program in place already. It’s about how we work with it and make it work for us.”

Despite her many talents, Hite’s greatest strength is her ability to connect with people and help them discover their innermost desires.

“I see who we are. I see our true value,” she said.

She draws on inspirational quotes to help participants manifest the lives they dream. From the words of another great: "Power comes from living in the present moment, where you can take action and create the future." – Sheilaa Hite

Create your future at the Life Purpose Panel. Hite will be joined by author Allan Holdener, The Oracle owner Kelly Oswald, Passion Test facilitator Lauren Kyle Boyle, Chopra meditation facilitator Michael Symonds and life coach Darlene Samur. Admission is $5 and free for secondary school students.

Hite and Kyle Boyle will help participants define their vision and ideal life then supply them with the tools necessary to manifest them in the Prioritizing Passions workshop. Admission is $35.
