Local
artist Vanessa Stark has been selected as the winner of the Peak 2 Peak gondola
poster competition for her vibrant and colourful painting, “Peak 2 Peak –
First Tracks.”
Artists
were invited to submit their design for a tribute poster, which would be used
to promote and commemorate the upcoming grand opening of Whistler-Blackcomb’s
(WB) new gondola on Dec. 12.
“We were
overwhelmed with the level of interest in this contest, and the amazing talent
that resides within the Whistler community,” Stuart Rempel, senior
vice-president of marketing and sales for WB said in a recent press release,
“Many of the pieces were stunning, and we were truly inspired by all those that
were submitted. However there could only be one winner and we felt Vanessa’s
painting captured the excitement of the opening and the spirit of the
‘Connection’ theme we had set.”
A judging
panel comprised of representatives from WB and the local arts community
selected Stark’s design, which will be given away to guests at the Peak 2 Peak
grand opening. The original artwork will be auctioned off at the Telus Winter
Classic in January.
“For my
painting to commemorate the grand opening of the Peak 2 Peak gondola, I wanted
to capture the essence of the thing that connects us all on the mountain … and
it’s all about having FUN!” Stark said.
For her
efforts, Stark will receive a WB season’s pass, a $500 gift card for WB retail
outlets, and 100 prints of her poster.
