Peak to Peak lift delayed

Whistler-Blackcomb still seeking financial partner

Plans to build a gondola linking the alpine areas of Whistler and Blackcomb mountains over Fitzsimmons Creek have been delayed a year as Whistler-Blackcomb continue to meet with prospective financial partners.

In order to begin construction this summer Whistler-Blackcomb needed to place an order for the $40-plus million gondola in early 2006. However, Whistler-Blackcomb needs a financing partner in place before starting work on the project, which is set to break several records for length between towers and height.

“We’re still planning and in design, but the construction of the towers will be delayed a year,” said Dave Brownlie, chief operating officer for Whistler-Blackcomb.

“We hope to have it available for 2008-09, and move construction to 2007.”
