Peak to Peak On Point

Construction crews have made significant progress on the Peak to Peak Gondola since breaking ground 14 weeks ago.

So far, they have completed major excavation of drive terminals and tower sites, completed form work and poured concrete, laying the ground work for erection of tower’s two and three this fall.

“With the Peak to Peak construction underway there is a lot of excitement among the crew,” said Rick Temple, Whistler-Blackcomb’s Peak to Peak project manager.

“… It takes a lot of people to make a project of this magnitude come together. It’s been great to get in and get this project off the ground.”

Crews had a lot of prep work to do before they could start construction.

Deep snow posed a problem at first, forcing crews to spend over a week clearing snow on each mountain. Electrical power, sewer, water and communication lines also had to be rerouted before construction could begin.

Phase one of construction will continue to the end of October, with the second phase set to begin in the spring of 2008. The gondola is slated for opening in December 2008.
