Pedestrian killed on Highway 99

Squamish RCMP are seeking the driver of a vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run with a pedestrian on Highway 99 approximately 500 metres south of Valley Drive just before 6 p.m., Monday, Dec 18.

Police say minutes prior to the accident they received calls about a man attempting to jump towards or touch vehicles travelling in the northbound lane.

Cpl. Mike Byrne says the victim was hit by two vehicles as he lay in the southbound lane but it is believed the first vehicle that hit him drove off immediately. Pieces of a black plastic passenger-side mirror were found at the scene. They are believed to be from a truck or fullsize vehicle.

The unidentified dead man is described as a 5’11" caucasian, 165 pounds, approximately 40 years old with short brown hair, a moustache and brown eyes. He was dressed in a green and blue Rugged Terrain nylon jacket, black nylon pants, white running shoes with red stripes and green plastic sunglasses.

Anyone with information on the accident is asked to call (604) 892-TIPS.
