A 47-year-old Las Vegas man wanted by the FBI and Indiana authorities for a variety of sex offences involving minors was picked up by Whistler-Pemberton RCMP in Whistler last Friday, Dec. 12.

According to the RCMP, the man arrived in Whistler at the beginning of December and was looking for a job and a place to live when he was picked up by police on a Canada Wide Immigration Warrant.

According to the RCMP he was using his own name in Whistler.

The man was identified as Edward Patrick Branigan. He is wanted by the FBI and Indiana authorities for two counts of travelling interstate for the purposes of having sex with a minor; two counts of production of child pornography; and one account of possession of child pornography. Branigan was described as armed and dangerous, and was known to possess firearms.

He was arrested in Whistler without incident, and no weapons were found.

The RCMP received a tip from family members in the U.S., and picked up Branigan after a short investigation.

The accused was transported to a Vancouver pre-trial correctional centre, and appeared before a Canada Immigration hearing on Monday. He was subsequently deported into the custody of U.S. authorities.
