Pemberton's Coast Range Heliskiing Ltd. has been granted approval to pursue a lawsuit against the Vancouver Olympic Organizing Committee (VANOC) and the provincial and federal governments. Coast Range is suing the groups after Olympic security measures and strict no-fly zones prevented the company from doing business during the 2009/10-winter season. VANOC compensated Whistler Blackcomb, Whistler Heliskiing and Cypress Mountain for similar restrictions last winter.
Although the defendants applied to have the claim dismissed, B.C. Supreme Court Judge Arne Silverman ruled Monday, Jan. 31 that CRH has grounds to pursue the case for lost revenue. The ruling also revealed that the notice of claim would be amended to require further details, which will be released later this month. Due to court proceedings Coast Range Heliskiing owner Tyler Freed and his legal council are unable to comment on the case. A trial is scheduled for January 2012.
