Local police are asking for the public's help in tracking down the driver of a vehicle that reportedly struck an elderly man before speeding off last month.

On the evening of May 22, a 71-year-old man was crossing Birch Street in Pemberton near Frontier Street when he was struck by a dark-coloured vehicle at the crosswalk.

The driver then fled the scene, police said.

The man was initially taken to the Pemberton Medical Clinic for injuries before being transferred to Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver. Police did not specify the nature of his injuries.

"The force of the impact knocked the Victim to the ground and destroyed his walker; he also lost his glasses in the process," an RCMP statement read.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Pemberton RCMP at 604-894-6634 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
