Pemberton realtors call for donations

Seasonal drive for clothing, blankets

The Whistler Real Estate office in Pemberton is collecting blankets, bedding and winter clothing as part of the 12th annual Realtors Care Blanket Drive.

Last year, the Blanket Drive, which services communities throughout the GVRD, Fraser Valley and Sea-to Sky corridor, collected more than 2,500 bags of blankets and clothing for people living in poverty.

“There are many people in our community struggling at this time of year,” said realtor Lisa Ames, Pemberton point person for the project. “With the cold weather and recent house fires there’s definitely a need.”

Donations are distributed locally though charities, churches and service organizations. Items can be dropped off at the Whistler Real Estate office in the Winchester building, across from the Wildwood Restaurant, until Monday, Dec. 4.

This year also marks the 3 rd Annual Pemberton B.C. Ambulance Lillooet Lake Toy Drive. The drive is collecting new and gently used toys to distribute to the children and youth living in the five First Nations communities at the end of Lillooet Lake.

“In the past, the only shortfall we’ve had is gifts suitable for teens,” said organizer Carrie Terchinetz, citing the enormous community support for the project.

The Pemberton paramedic took on the project three years ago out of a belief that every kid deserved a Merry Christmas.

“For some kids, what we bring is the only thing they get for Christmas,” she said.

Donation of unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the Pemberton B.C. Ambulance station on Portage Street, across from Signal Hill Elementary, until Dec. 14. Any excess toys will be donated to other community organizations serving the Pemberton Valley and surrounding areas.
