Pemberton teens encounter exhibitionist

Police ask for public’s help in locating suspect

A group of teenage girls walking home from the Pemberton bus terminal Saturday night encountered a male masturbating in the bushes along Pemberton Meadows Road. The man is described as Caucasian, approximately 5’10" and in his mid-to-late 20’s. He was wearing a yellow t-shirt, white shorts and dark shoes.

The teens first noticed the man as they were walking west of Birch Street out of the village at approximately 10:20 p.m. on Saturday, May 28. He overtook the girls, crossed ahead of them and disappeared into the bushes about a half kilometre from the village centre. When the young women passed by where the man had entered the bushes, they observed him masturbating with his shirt off a short distance from the road.

The three quickly proceeded to their destination and contacted police. They did not sustain any physical harm.

An RCMP investigation of the incident, RCMP patrols – which including the questioning of area businesses that were open at the time – did not reveal any further information about the suspect.

"We’re treating this as an isolated incident," said constable Devon Jones, media liaison for the Whistler-Pemberton RCMP detachment. "We were very thorough with our search. Now all we can do is keep our eyes and ears open."

The Whistler-Pemberton RCMP urges anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the Pemberton RCMP detachment at (604) 894-6126.
