The former president of Whistler Mountain knows a good ski guy when he sees him.

That's why Pat O'Donnell has been luring David Perry, a former Whistler-Blackcomb employee, into different ski industry jobs over the course of their careers in the business.

The latest move takes Perry to Aspen where he will assume the responsibility of senior vice president at the Aspen Skiing Company on Aug. 5 under O'Donnell's direction.

Perry will finish up his duties as the president and CEO of Colorado Ski Country USA at the end of the month.

"I've worked with David both at Whistler and in his position at Colorado Ski Country, and the opportunity to work closely with him again here at Aspen/Snowmass will be tremendous," said O'Donnell, president and CEO of Aspen Skiing Company.

"He is passionate about this place and his experience working in a ski community is evident. He's exceptionally skilled at building new business, marketing a resort and driving skier days."

The partnership between Perry and O'Donnell has been years in the making.

In the early ’90s, when Whistler and Blackcomb were owned by different companies, O'Donnell, who was running Whistler, enticed Perry away from a marketing post with Intrawest at Blackcomb to a position as marketing director at Whistler.

Then in September 2000, O'Donnell encouraged Perry to leave Whistler/Blackcomb and go south to Colorado to head up CSCUSA.

O'Donnell is chairman of the board of directors for the CSCUSA, a trade organization representing Colorado's 23 ski and snowboard resorts.

He had to explain to the board last week that he had recruited Perry once again. This time the move was to Aspen.

At Aspen Ski Co., Perry will oversee the company's marketing campaign, try to increase skier visit days and work with industry and community partners.

"The time I have spent at Colorado Ski Country USA has been very rewarding – I have had the privilege of working with some superb people, both the staff of Ski Country and those at our member resorts," Perry said.

"And now I am energized to be joining the team at the Aspen Skiing Company – a world renowned community and resort."
