Angry Pirate, the World Cup Single Track and Ho Chi Minh trails provided the forum for the second Phat Wednesday downhill race of the summer on July 2. And even though last weekend’s Psychosis race in Golden kept some competitors away, 138 riders took part.

Jen Ashton was the fastest of 27 women, finishing her run in 4 minutes, 49 seconds. She was .42 seconds faster than Katrina Strand. Danice Uyesugi was third in 4:52.8.

Tim Eaton was the fastest male, in a time of 4:03.4. He was 6.56 seconds ahead of Keven Bartkowski and 8.2 seconds faster than Josh Decloet. There were 99 riders in the male category.

The junior male category was dominated by Tyler Allison, whose time of 4:14.6 would have given him seventh place in the adult male category. Allison was 10.82 seconds ahead of Nick Geddes, while Austen Benge finished third in 4:35.2.

A masters category has been created this year, due to popular demand. Jean Hanel won last week’s event in 5:04.5. Attila Avsar was the only other master, finishing in 6:26.3.

A draw for prizes was held at the GLC following the race, where Rueben Miller won a Sram X9 drivetrain, Matt Hebert won a Sram front derailleur, Jean Hanel collected some Race Face armour, Dan Raymond won a certificate from Kokanee, Max Horner won a certificate from Garbanzo Bike and Bean, and Nick Geddes picked up a new set of Wtb tires.

The next race will be held on July 16th and the course will be determined next week. Check the WORCA website — www.worca.com — for details.
