The second Phat Wednesday downhill race of the season took place on Wednesday, July 4, and once again organizers were amazed by the turnout — 180 riders for the second race in a row, including 70 riders that did not take part in the first downhill of the season in June.

The course was a little more tight and technical with Angry Pirate, World Cup Singletrack and Ho Chi Min, creating a lot of passing and some close finishes.

As always the sponsors stepped forward with some great draw prizes for participants. Kerri-Anne Hamilton won the Nintendo DS, Adam Wright won the Hayes Disk Brakes, and Zeb Fellows won the Sram X9 drive train. Other items were donated by WTB, Fox, Kokanee and Garbanzo Bike and Bean.

There was also a race on Wednesday, July 11 on a rocky, steep course that included Schleyer and Lower Whistler Downhill. Those results will be posted next week.

After the July 11 race the series will break for the Crankworx freeride mountain bike festival before picking up again in August. The last three dates are Aug. 8, 22 and 29.
