Phat Wednesday goes technical

The field was about 50 riders smaller for the July 11 Phat Wednesday downhill race, compared to the previous week, which can be attributed to the challenging selection of trails — Schleyer to Lower Whistler Downhill.

The field was about 50 riders smaller for the July 11 Phat Wednesday downhill race, compared to the previous week, which can be attributed to the challenging selection of trails — Schleyer to Lower Whistler Downhill. Still, with 130 riders at the start gate last week the field was still bigger than any race held last year.

Once again dozens of draw prizes were handed out at the after race party. Beth Parsons won the Sram X-9 drive train, Zebedian Fellows and Mateo Abel won the Fox jerseys, and Chad Hendren won the Fox hydration pack and globes. Other items were donated by sponsors at Kokanee, Sram, Fox, WTB and others.

The Phat Wednesday series is taking a break during the Crankworx freeride mountain bike festival before resuming in August. The last three dates are Aug. 8, 22 and 29.
