Phat Wednesdays pick up speed

The Phat Wednesdays Freeride Series, a set of six races through the Whistler Mountain Bike Park, continued on June 30 with a field of 45 racers taking part.

The fastest time belonged to Adam Cook, who finished the course in a blistering two minutes, 44.8 seconds, more than seven seconds faster than his nearest competitor. Luke Patching was second in 2:51.9 and JJ Desormeaux third in 2:55.2.

In the women’s category the top time went to Claire Whiteman in 3:20.0. Cross-country racer Angela Teng was second in 3:23.5 and Jenn Ashton third in 3:33.1.

James McSkimming was the top junior in 3:06.9, finishing 13 th overall and 33 seconds faster than the next junior. Ryan Sullivan was second in the category in 3:39.6.

The only junior woman competing, Shannon Smith, finished in 4:13.0.

The Phat Wednesday Freeride Series, which is co-hosted by the Whistler Mountain Bike Park and WORCA, will continue on July 14. Meet at 5:30 p.m. at the base of Whistler to sign on.

Future events will take place on July 28, Aug. 11 and August 25.
