What: Inaugural Annual General Meeting

Who: Whistler Photographic Society

Where: Upstairs lobby, MY Place

When: Tuesday, Dec. 3

Interested professional and amateur photographers are invited to attend the Whistler Photographic Society’s Dec. 3 AGM which will be primarily a "meet and greet" with a brainstorming session. There will also be an opportunity for those interested to sign up for a variety of responsibilities within the society.

The Whistler Photographic Society is a registered non-profit society established to raise the recognition of photography as a form of artistic expression and to build a strong sense of community for Whistler-area photographers.

In its inaugural year, the society staged a month long invitational exhibition at Millennium Place, and it also worked with the TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival to create Exposure: The Gallery – a week long exhibition of action-sports photography. The society plans to expand both of these exhibitions in 2003, and also hopes to develop a series of photography workshops, launch a Web site, and organize a variety of social events for its members.

"There is a wealth of talented photographers in Whistler, so we hope that the meeting will be well-attended by both amateur photographers and established professionals," says Chair Leanna Rathkelly. "The society was formed by photographers, for photographers, so we are really looking to the local talent to come out, share their ideas, and get involved."

Admission to the meeting is free, however current and new members will be asked to pay their annual membership fee of $35 at the meeting. For more information, contact Rathkelly at 604-938-9808 or Rory Tucker at 604-938-1482.
