Pique receives 14 BCYCNA Award nominations

Pique Newsmagazine received 14 BC & Yukon Community Newspaper Association (BCYCNA) Award nominations, the organization announced on March 2.

Pique was announced as a finalist in the Newspaper Excellence Award (Category D) alongside the Alaska Highway News and Oak Bay News.

Braden Dupuis received three nominations: for environmental initiative for his coverage of bear issues; for environmental writing for his coverage of lead-contaminated water; and for feature series for his coverage of Whistler's housing crisis.

Brandon Barrett earned a business writing nomination for his "Firestarters" feature on Whistler entrepreneurs who pitch on CBC's Dragons' Den and Dan Falloon was nominated for feature article for "Helping the helpers" on post-traumatic stress disorder in first responders.

The production department also received six nominations for advertisements that have appeared in Pique. Claire Ryan received two nods for papers in the under-25,000 circulation category, for ad design, collaborative for Summit Sports and ad design for Basalt. Jon Parris was nominated in the ad design, collaborative category for Black Tie Ski Rentals and Lindsey Ataya was nominated in ad design for The Venue. Karl Partington was nominated in ad campaign, collaborative for Nesters Market, while Pique was also named a finalist for best classifieds.

For other awards, Pique's publication of Crank'd mountain bike magazine is a finalist in special publications, under 25,000 where it'll be up against the Whistler Question's Wishes Wedding Magazine. Lastly, "Canada D'eh" earned a nomination for special section, under 25,000.

The winners will be announced at a gala at the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond on April 29.
