Who:
Oongakka ChangWhere:
The ShackSteve St. Arnaud plays with Oongakka Chang, a swampy Louisiana style bluegrass band, at their Whistler debut. The band lineup is Arnaud on guitar and vocals, Richard Trann on rhythm guitar and vocals, Jeff Heintzman on guitar, Larry Cosalich on bass, and Mike Grentzer on mandolin, guitar and lapsteel. They favour b-sides for covers and bluegrass is their sound. They play music that involves "lots of pain and suffering like country songs, but its a happy sounding music; someone might be cheating on someone," Heintzman quips. "If its fun music and we get into it, well do it. When it feels too much like work we try another song. With four or five guys contributing everything from Ween to Fish, theres a variety of musical experience. Steve and I always tried to play anything we could as a duo, and thats what were still doing." With singles like Pemberton Potato Moon and Sittin Wonderin, theres a ditty for all. Its "shit-kicking music that gets people jumping!"
