Get ready for rock, hip hop, reggae and electronica, Whistler folks, as the annual Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival brings you a lengthy, daily does of the good stuff from April 12 to 21. That is, music. Get your ears tuned, your shades out, and your sunblock on. Rain or shine, though, it’s all a go-ahead. The Jim Beam Outdoor Concert Series features free outdoor concerts daily from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the mainstage at the base of Whistler-Blackcomb. Some of these bands play at clubs that same evening. The Kokanee Freeride Concert Series also runs through the festival, bringing bands to 10 bars, for 10 parties, on 10 different nights.

Friday, April 12

RAPPIN’ OUT

Who: Harpoon Missile, Choclair, Baby Blue Soundcrew, & Bishop

Citta’s central stage in Village Square attracts locals, patio-side, and visitors too. Best people watching spot to enjoy a variety of pints on tap.

With a Euro-look and feel, its wooden interiors lined with eye candy décor make for a good lounging spot, cocktail or café in hand. Patio too. Live music some weekly nights.

Where: Tapley’s Neighbourhood Pub

Casual atmosphere for warm conversation and cold beer. Bar staff operate a not-too-loud sound system of rock and roll numbers and the outdoor patio gives patrons the best air in the world.

Brewhouse tunes are always hopping from morning till night. A pool table and fireside comfy chairs, alongside full restaurant set up, make for a great meeting spot.

Down to earth pub but still in that Whistler style. Just a hop, skip and a jump from that brisk walk on the Valley Trail in Whistler Creekside.

BREAK OUT THE BEATS

Gary Edwards, drummer and spokesperson for the band, says, "In 20 years of playing, we lived the rock ’n’ roll lifestyle for some time, and played in Whistler for years. These days the modern rock star is the power yuppie, clean and sober, but basically what we do is sell beer." From an initial gig in Mahone Bay, N.S., the Hopping Penguins have just kept on going.
