Vancouver when I have to. Whistler when I want to.

Re: “

Like Dusty's and GLC, Merlins is another Company-owned shop. Whistler-Blackcomb does a great job of giving you what you want - big patio, lots of beer, nachos etc., and the opportunity to make up all sorts of skiing lies about yourself. The place is bright and fun and the staff are quite good. Definitely should be on your apres ski bucket list.

Re: “Two freeskiers set to go to junior worlds

Thanks so much to the WFC, WB and the IFSA for getting this epic event to run here at Whistler. A big thank you to the Gods for the amazing weather we are having. Get out there with a lawn chair, some tasty beverages, Raybans and take in what will prove to be the best skiing event on the mountain this year!

Re: “Brohm Ridge deemed an 'unacceptable site' decades ago

The Sea to Sky Gondola is the canary in a coal mine for GAS. It is trying to compete with Grouse and W-B for customers, just like GAS. the S-S Gondola project was built very well and is run quite professionally. With a full year of operations under their belt, it would be wise to listen to the shareholders' feedback on the financial rewards of such an operation because unlike GAS, they have to make it 100% on the value of the attraction and daily operations. Real estate sales should be considered a nice-to-have in this application but not a primary motivation.

Re: “Creekside Tim Hortons to open early 2015

I'm having difficulty figuring out how this will benefit Creekside. It's not in our village - which already has a 70% vacancy rate - and will create more pass-through traffic. I wonder if council will approve my application for The Boot Two in the same building? That will keep tourists in Creekside for at least an hour or two per visit….and many locals!

Re: “Life after Whistler... yes, it does exist

Congrats Max - I wish you all the best post-WB - you always were a pain in the ass to deal with at Guest Services! Great post-Whistler-closing article too - you always capture so well the inner turmoil with having to truck down the road to Blackcomb in May. God help us if you give up writing for the Pique. We'll probably sell our place soon thereafter…...

Re: “Cabin falls off line during construction of Sea to Sky Gondola

Of course I hate to be the prick who points out the new 8 passenger cabins for the Village lift cost $37,500 each - but I just did. You have to sell a heck of a lot of day passes to pay off the capital invested in the Sea to Sky Gondola. I hope they make it.

Re: “Closing Whistler's licensed grow-ops could pose public safety issue

We have 18 licensed growers in Whistler?? Someone is going to grow 5100 sqft of plants in FxJx??! I must be living under a rock. Who knew so many people in Whistler have chronic pain, insomnia, PTSD, terminal cancer, etc. Oh wait…they don't. The Feds are preparing for a legalized supply chain. That would be nice - time to throw out the "medical" part of marihuana use. It's a recreational substance just like alcohol. Treating your inability to sleep with weed and having a MD prescribe it is ridiculous and makes a mockery of western medicine. The Feds had better speed up their process before too many more of these procedural resets occur. I recommend following the liquor production and sales laws exactly. Thankfully my MD doesn't need to write me a prescription for gin and tonic!

Re: “Staff recommends ban of degradable plastic bags

Painful. I'm a pretty astute environmental minimalist and had no idea the 'degradable' bags were in any way different from 'biodegradable' bags. I can also see why the MMBC is going to be a painful process for consumers who don't understand what can and cannot go into the stream. I always thought if it looks like plastic and feels like plastic, it is plastic. Apparently not. This really needs to get sorted out soon in order for us to comply with keeping the recycling streams clean.
