Tough to describe, but they definitely have jazz. The eight-piece collective the Pocketdwellers have opened for legendary jazz maestro Charlie Hunter, and played the 14 th Annual Montreaux Atlanta Music Festival last August in conjunction with the release of Shine, their latest video.

The Montreaux festival is a feather in the band’s cap, a concert which attracted an audience of 150,000, in conjunction with Philadelphia’s Schoolz of Thought collective.

The band has also opened for alternative rock act Wide Mouth Mason, who appear in Whistler on March 31.

Toronto’s funk and rhythmic outfit bring their own brand of sound to the Boot this Sunday, part of the ongoing alternative music series.

Together for the past four years, the band call themselves a mix of "urban rock fusion," and songs from their latest album, Digitally Organic, incorporate drum ’n bass, some rock, and jazz.

The Pocketdwellers recently signed with Song, the label for the former Grapes of Wrath, as well as Amy Sky.

The lineup at the show features Dennis Passley on sax, Sheldon Moore on turntables, Nigel Williams, MC, Christian McKibbin on guitar, Dave Leitaq on keys, Gord Shields on bass, and Marco Raposo on drums.

Celtic ska from Poland?

Did you know ska could go Celtic?

It can and it does, with the band Warsaw, the reggae dub and ska outfit who have shared the stage with No Doubt, the Offspring, Save Ferris, and The Young Dubliners.

With two percussionists, a saxophonist and often horns, their instruments hone moody tones on songs like Echo, or up the quotient on the fast-paced Not to be Understood.

They dub themselves a "hardworking tour band" and have been known to get dance floors hopping in their home base of Tucson, Arizona.

From Elephant Funk to Drug rap, there’s mix of titles and sounds that form a diverse blend.

Warsaw’s sound was heard on the Vans Triple Crown Surf, Skate and Snowboard competition, which aired on ESPN and NBC networks.

The band also appeared on the Mentos Freshmakers Tour and album.

Catch the sounds of the five-piece band, who play from albums Pimpin on the Crutches (2001), HORs G’lore (1999), Battle Ska Galactica (1997), and Warska (1995).
