Police investigate firearms report

Three officers responded Sunday evening

Whistler police are still investigating a report of two individuals armed with firearms south of Whistler.

Three officers responded to the report on Sunday evening after two people were spotted with rifles in the wooded area near Whistler Bungee.

The suspects were gone when police arrived.

RCMP Sergeant Marc Lavergne said they are still investigating the case and assured that there is no cause for alarm at this point.

“There’s no reason for anyone to be concerned,” he said Monday. “There is hunting permitted in that area for fowl and waterfowl and so with that in mind there’s no reason for anyone to be alarmed.

“We take complaints like this very seriously and we like to make sure we get to the bottom of it and find out exactly what was going on.”
