The RCMP have released a composite drawing of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the Dec. 27 arson attempt on a White Gold house.
At 5:10 a.m. that day, the RCMP and Whistler Fire Department attended a residential fire. After a joint investigation, the two forces discovered that it was set deliberately using gasoline as a Molotov cocktail. The police investigation into the case is ongoing.
Approximately $1,500 in damage was caused by the fire. The front door had to be replaced.
The Whistler Safety Committee has posted a $5,000 cash reward for information that leads to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the incident.
Police are interested in identifying the man depicted in the composite drawing, who may or may not have been involved in the incident. There were no witnesses at the scene, but the man was seen at a local gas station prior to the accident.
The police also believe the arson in White Gold may be connected with a similar incident less than two weeks earlier where a Molotov cocktail was discovered outside of another Whistler home. The first incident did not result in a fire.
