Nicklaus North thief caught by RCMP

On July 14 the Whistler RCMP arrested an adult from Pemberton believed to be involved in a series of residential break and enters in the Nicklaus North and Nordic subdivision earlier in the month.

Carl Edward Shewchuck, 18, made his first appearance in a North Vancouver court on July 16, facing charges of Break Enter and Theft, Possession of Stolen Property over $5,000, Trespass by Night and Possession of Cocaine.

Approximately $20,000 in stolen property, including home electronics and golf clubs, was recovered.

According to the RCMP, they were able to identify the suspect as a result of their investigation and tips from the public. They found different locations where the stolen goods were stored.

A surveillance sting operation netted the arrest of Sewchuck.

In all of the cases, the suspect accessed the homes through unlocked sliding doors. The RCMP believe he went from residence to residence trying doors until he found one that was open.

The RMCP remind residents to lock their doors and windows at night and to set their alarms.

RCMP discover $250,000 grow-op

The Pemberton RCMP uncovered a massive marijuana grow operation on the 1400 block of Hemlock Street on July 17 after executing a search warrant.

Some 300 plants were seized with an estimated value of $250,000, as well as a considerable amount of equipment.

One adult male was taken into custody and will make his first court appearance on Sept. 30 in Pemberton Provincial Court.

The suspect’s identity can’t be released until after his first court appearance.
