A Whistler woman was left shaken this week after she found an unknown man had broken into her bedroom in the village.
The woman told police that at approximately 3 a.m. on March 8 she awoke to a male suspect breaking into her residence on Northlands Boulevard. The woman, who was sleeping on a downstairs sofa at the time, opened the door to her room only to see the man standing there. He quickly exited through a patio door. No valuables were taken.
The woman told police she did not get a good look of the suspect, but noted he was wearing a black hoodie with the hood up at the time.
The investigation continues.
Break-and-enter suspect arrested thanks to hawk-eyed off-duty cop
An off-duty cop’s keen eye has led to the arrest of a man linked to a pair of break-and-enter cases.
The morning of March 2, the off-duty officer was driving southbound on Mons Road when he spotted the suspect riding his bike and recognized him from some surveillance footage that had made the rounds at the Whistler RCMP detachment, police said.
Turns out the 46-year-old man with no fixed address was wanted for breaking and entering into two local businesses last month. In one instance, the man was reportedly confronted by employees at the store before brandishing what they thought was a gun, police said.
He was subsequently arrested leaving a village restaurant and was found in possession of break-and-enter tools and a substance police suspect was crystal meth.
Mark Loring Connolly now faces charges of break and enter, mischief, possession of an imitation weapon, possession of a controlled substance and theft under $5,000, police said.
Investigators are also trying to determine if a mountain bike in his possession at the time of arrest was stolen.
Mount Currie man assaulted in front of Pemberton restaurant, police say
A Mount Currie man was injured last week after allegedly being assaulted by a pair of suspects in front of a Pemberton restaurant.
At roughly 5 p.m. on March 2, the man reported the assault to police, which took place on Portage Road.
Police attended and noted the left side of the victim’s face was badly swollen. He was taken to a local health clinic for medical attention.
After extensive patrols, police tracked down the suspects, a 33-year-old Mount Currie man and a 41-year-old D’Arcy man, who were both intoxicated at the time, police said. One of the suspects was also “violent in cells” and attempted to fight police, according to Whistler RCMP Staff Sgt. Steve LeClair.
TV, skis reported stolen from Whistler home
Roughly $1,300 in valuables was reported stolen from a Whistler home last week, police said.
On March 5, a complainant told police that someone had broken into the residence on Eagle Drive sometime between Feb. 26 and March 4 and taken several items, including a 42-inch Samsung TV and a pair of black K2 fat powder skis.
As there was no sign of forced entry, it’s believed the suspect entered the home through a side door that may have been left unlocked.
