The break-in happened sometime between late Saturday evening (Jan. 22) and early Sunday morning (Jan. 23).
The RCMP Forensic Identification Section is enhancing tapes from the store and will release photographs as soon as possible. Police are also working on a forensic analysis of the crime scene.
Constable Devon Jones, community policing/media relations officer with the Whistler/Pemberton RCMP, said this robbery was not a spur of the moment crime. The thieves or thief got into Whistler Audio Visual by using a saw to cut a hole into the wall from the neighbouring business, Peak Ventures.
Police have yet to confirm how the thieves/thief got into Peak Ventures.
Jones confirmed Whistler Audio Visual has an alarm system but would not provide any more details due to the ongoing investigation.
Owner Rob Wilde, who has been operating the store in Function Junction for the past eight years, is confident the police will catch the people responsible for the break in.
The initial estimate of the stolen goods was $40,000 but it keeps rising as Wilde does an inventory of the store. The big tickets items he said where flat panelled TVs, the Sharp AQUOS series LCDs, which range in value from $1,000 to $10,000.
Whistler Audio Visual was only closed for one day and is now open for business again.
