Where: Pony Espresso (Pemberton)

When: Saturday, Oct. 1, 1 p.m.-1 a.m.

Greasy Jack’s confirmed, but Julie’s still missing in action. Mike Richman, owner of The Pony Espresso is pretty sure she’ll come out of the woodwork this Saturday. After all, this Saturday is Oct. 1, the date of The Pony’s last Hoo Haw. As of 1 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 2 The Pony will be closing its doors at the Portage Street location it has occupied for the last 10 years.

Gord Rutherford, front man for The Gordo Trio, has been busily assembling a lineup of Pemberton’s best musicians to mark the momentous occasion. Among the scheduled guests include the party band Still Smokin’, local faves Chicks With Picks, Jordan White from She Stole My Beer and various solo acts, including Mount Currie’s Leroy.

"We were looking at players that had a connection to The Pony. Some of them had played here before, others are our regular customers," explained Richman.

The party starts at 1 p.m., with the first set of live music scheduled for 3 p.m. And while parents can kick back with a beer and enjoy the tunes, kids will be able to blow off some steam their own way. Pony rides (natch) will be part of the festivities, along with a bouncy castle and face painting.

There is a $5 admission for both adults and children, with proceeds going to benefit Vancouver Children’s Hospital.
