PORCA/WORCA host Toonie race in Pemberton

Although Whistler’s mountain bike trails are slowly drying out, the season is already in full swing in the more temperate town of Pemberton.

Although Whistler’s mountain bike trails are slowly drying out, the season is already in full swing in the more temperate town of Pemberton.

To kick their season off and show off local trails, the Pemberton Off-Road Cycling Association, a sister club of the Whistler Off-Road Cycling Association is hosting a Toonie race on Thursday, April 24.

You can sign up with WORCA for the upcoming season, and ride some of Pemberton’s trails. Meet at the gravel pit at the base of Ivey Lake Road, and bring some warm clothes to the apres barbecue.

The cost of a WORCA membership for the 2003 seasons is $15, plus $15 more for insurance through Cycling B.C. if you wish to participate in any races or clinics.

Before the race, however, PORCA and WORCA are hosting their annual Trail Daze trail sweep, starting with a pancake breakfast at The Pony Espresso at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 19.

Bring any tools you have, including chainsaws, rakes, picks, shovels, shears and loppers.

This is not a riding day, just a walkthrough of local trails to clear any debris and spot areas that are in need of maintenance.
