Powrie playing at après

Dig the jazz scene this weekend…

Après Restaurant and Wine Bar continues the jazz@apr è s series this weekend with two performances by Vancouver singer/piano player Glenna Powrie.

Originally from North Vancouver Powrie spent several years in New York City, part of a vibrant music scene that enriched her sound with elements of world music, pop, funk and jazz.

In addition to two solo recordings of original music–989’s Asha and 2004’s Rhythm Of Humanity–Powrie has toured and recorded with a wide variety of well-known recording artists including Chaka Khan, Cassandra Wilson, Salt N Pepa, Robert Palmer, Cab Calloway, Jaco Pastorius and Dizzy Gillespie. Her association with 1990s one-hit-wonder Sophie B. Hawkins led to an appearance in the artist’s much-played ‘Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover’ video.

More recently, Powrie has toured with Grammy Award-winning composer James McBride and has become a mainstay of the Vancouver jazz scene.

Powrie performs in the intimate après room on Friday and Saturday evening.
