Program lets teens tap into talent

Some teenagers out there are content to sit around watching Canadian Idol. But then there are others who dream of being the one on stage, belting out a love ballad that makes their mother’s eyes get misty with pride.

Those in the latter category will want to secure a place in the youth talent programs beginning this October and running weekly through to December.

The programs, offered for teens and juniors eight-12 years old by the Tandem Music Group, allow youth to set free the performer within by providing coaching on vocals, stage presence, body movement, song choice and other areas relevant to singing stardom. Sessions take place Sundays weekly at Whistler Secondary and culminate with a pop show performance at MY Place on Dec. 6.

Fees for the program are $525 for the teens and $160 for the juniors with enrolment in both categories limited to 12.

Registration is currently being offered through Meadow Park Recreation Centre with a special opportunity at the Strut Your Stuff registration event at Whistler Secondary this Saturday, Sept. 6.
