Provincial beginner gymnasts on the podium

Whistler Gymnastics’ Beginner Provincial team landed on its feet at the recent Zone 5 Championships at Flicka Gymnastics, with athletes performing well in all disciplines and landing their share of podiums.

Whistler Gymnastics’ Beginner Provincial team landed on its feet at the recent Zone 5 Championships at Flicka Gymnastics, with athletes performing well in all disciplines and landing their share of podiums. Zone 5 is recognized as one of the toughest in the province with Flicka, Renfrew Gymnastics, Arbutus Gymnastics Club, West Vancouver Gymnastics, Phoenix Gymnastics and the Bowen Island club.

In the Beginner Provincial Argo Age 9 group, Emily Cankovic was fifth on the vault, sixth on the bars, third on the beam and fourth on the floor to finish third all around.

In the Tyro Age 10 category, Tyece Fairweather was third on the vault, seventh on bars, third on beam and eighth on the floor to finish fourth all around. Victoria Jazic was sixth all around in the same category, but earned a gold medal on the bars. She was ninth on vault, sixth on beam and fifth on floor. Meg Halliwell was ninth all around, finishing 10 th on vault, ninth on bars, ninth on beam and 11 th on floor.

In the Tyro Age 11 group, Taylor Kelly was ninth on vault, eighth on bars, fifth on beam and 13 th on floor to finish 10 th all around.

Their coach, Catou Crookshank, praised all of her gymnasts’ efforts. The team will be taking part in its first Provincial Level 1 competition in Kelowna in June.
