Pug wedding raises ruckus as well as funds for WAG

By Nicole Fitzgerald

What: A Pug Wedding

When: Saturday, July 7, 2 p.m.

Where: International Youth Hostel

Admission: By donation

Proud pug mama Michele Bush is thrilled with the number of RSVPs pouring in for the betrothal of her pug Basil to the Pashleigh family’s Dame Pug.

“I read the article to my beagle, Dude, and he howled with excitement,” wrote one wedding guest.

“We would love to attend and witness the exchanging of woofs,” wrote another attendee.

The two pug pooches will waddle down the isle on Saturday, July 7 at 2 p.m. on the shores of Alta Lake at the International Youth Hostel.

There is only one way to describe the afternoon wedding: Pugsatively fun.

Two legged and four legged guests are invited. Guests must dress in their worst wedding attire. Artists Cary and Paulo Lopez will face paint anyone wanting to look like a pug.

Familiar traditions will be twisted pug style. The hilarious Reverend D Parton conducts the marriage vows, dog walkers step in as bridesmaids, the party barge escorts the bride, Grape Junction uncorks a special pug label, Marjie Martini shakes up pug-tinis, the Dogs Paw and Mountain Hound Lounge hosts spa services, Whistler Wedding Planners and Blooms and Janet Pashleigh Designs dress the grounds, Sugar Momma Pastries bakes the doggie cake, Sachi Sushi provides two-legged nibblies, Bralorne Mountain Holidays hosts the howlingmoon, and instead of party grab bags, the Resort Municipality is donating poop bags as well as bride and groom dog licenses.

All funds raised at the wedding will go to the Whistler Animals Galore (WAG) animal shelter.

The event can only accommodate 100 guests. To attend, contact Michele at bushwoman@telus.net .
