Approximately 30 skiers and boarders of the so-called softer sex turned out for the third annual women-only Queen of the Rail jam on Saturday night, but there was nothing soft about the level of riding on display.

Almost every trick in the book that doesn’t involve getting inverted off the rail was performed, and that’s probably because inverted tricks were not allowed.

The athletes themselves voted for the winners in each category, with cash prizes for the most votes. A lot of draw prizes were also up for grabs, and almost everyone walked away with something to show for their $15 entry fee.

The Ski Female 16 and Over winner was Emmanuelle Blanchett, winning $20. Asya Hemsworth was the top Youth 15 and Under competitor, winning $15, while Nadine Hermann was the top 16 and Over snowboarder and won $80. She also won the overall crown for most votes cast.

Prizes included a Sapient snowboard, Atomic Punx skis, a Nintendo Wii, a Nintendo DS, Kombi gloves, an iPod shuffle and gift certificates from Telus, and other items from Glacier Shop, Showcase Snowboards, and DNA.

The last King of the Rail event is Saturday, March 15. Registration is available at Whistler Kids at the base of Blackcomb at 5 p.m. and the contest takes place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. under the lights outside. The cost is $15 to take part, and there are cash prizes for the top skiers and riders in each category, and draw prizes are available for everybody.
