Quest Lecture: How Sweet Is It?

Human beings have always enjoyed and continue to enjoy their "sweets". Thousands of years ago, substances that were sweet could only be found in small quantities, and only at certain times of the year. The situation today is vastly different with large amounts of sugar, and a variety of sugar substitutes/artificial sweeteners present in hundreds of processed foods. This presentation (audience participation encouraged) will look at some of these sweet compounds, as well as how to recognize their presence in processed foods from the list of ingredients on the packaging.
