The student body and the athletic teams at Quest University will be named the Quest Kermodes.

Staff and students had a hand in choosing the moniker during the first term.

Quest, the first private, secular, not-for-profit liberal arts and sciences university in the country, opened its doors to students in September.

“We look forward to the years ahead of building a strong reputation as the Quest Kermodes,” said Toran Savjord, director of recreation and athletics.

The kermode bear, also known as the “spirit bear”, is the official animal of B.C. A genetically unique subspecies of bear, kermodes are noted for their appearance because a small percentage of their population have white or cream coloured coats.
