The Whistler RCMP had a quiet week in general, with two dine-and-dashes, two break-and-enters, an assault at a nightclub, a torched vehicle in the impound lot, the theft of two pairs of used snowboard boots and a single impaired driver.
The impaired driver was observed by RCMP skidding out of the day skier lots at midnight on March 18. The driver was then followed to the highway where he was observed weaving back and fourth. RCMP stopped the vehicle and the male driver denied he had been drinking, despite the odor of alcohol. They administered a roadside test, which he failed, then brought him to the station where he provided samples of .120 and .110.
The 24-year-old Whistler man is being changed with driving over 0.08 and impaired driving.
The stolen snowboard boots were reported just after 4 p.m. on March 20. Valued at $379 and $300 respectively, they were stolen from the front steps of a residence between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
On March 21 at 1:32 a.m. the RCMP attended a nightclub in the village. According to the victim, a male accused him of kissing his girlfriend and punched him several times in the face. The victim sustained a black eye, bruising and a cut on his cheek.
The bouncers ejected the male from the club. He was not in the area when the police arrived. However, the man was known to the victim and the police are investigating the incident as an assault.
At 2:16 a.m. on March 22 the RCMP attended a silent alarm at a restaurant on Village Green. they found a door open with the chains cut to indicate a break and enter. The staff attended and noticed that a lock was broken off a liquor cabinet, and several bottles were missing.
Later that evening the RCMP attended a break-and-enter on Balsam Way. They found a screen door on the back porch lying on the ground and saw that the door itself was open. Inside the residence they found a 16-year-old girl who was intoxicated and went into the wrong house to sleep. Her parents were contacted to collect her and no charges were laid.
The RCMP were also called to respond to two dine-and-dashes in the village. Just before 11 p.m. on March 22 a group of eight or nine people skipped out on a $150 bill at a restaurant. However, because of their conversation that night the wait staff knew that the diners were going to a nightclub afterwards. They called the RCMP who attended and spoke to the individuals after they were identified. The diners agreed to pay the bill. No charges were laid.
RCMP received another complaint on March 23 after a waitress identified one of the persons involved in another dine and dash in another restaurant. The waitress confronted the individual and the RCMP are now involved to ensure that the person facilitates the payment.
At 9:45 a.m. on March 23 the RCMP received a report from a towing company that a vehicle in their impound yard had been torched overnight. The vehicle had been in the yard since March 7, and the police are now trying to contact the owner.
