Rail jam kicks off Sprite Series

A strong field of 63 competitors turned out for the inaugural Sprite Park Rider Series rail jam on Sunday.

The skiers and riders had their choice of three lines, one with a c-box and Westbeach rail, one with a long box, and one with an A-Frame rail.

Judges Zoltan Katchanoski and Colin Duncan marked hundreds of runs during the contest while Paul Rak provided the colour commentary.

The next Sprite Park Rider Series event is a halfpipe on Blackcomb on Jan. 9, but jibbers will get another chance to strut their stuff on Saturday, Dec. 18 when Night Moves hosts the first King of the Rail contest.

Open to everyone with a Night Moves Pass and $2, the contest runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. under the lights on Magic Chair. The pot is split up by the winners at the end of the night, and an Atomic snowboard or pair of skis will be offered as draw prizes after the event.

Future King of the Rail contests will take place on Dec. 29, Jan. 8 and 29, Feb. 12 and March 4 and 19. There will also be a Queen of the Rail competition open to women only on Feb. 19.
