Rainbow Phase I sales at 60 per cent

Sales at the new Rainbow neighbourhood are continuing, with about 60 per cent of Phase I homes bought so far.

Sales at the new Rainbow neighbourhood are continuing, with about 60 per cent of Phase I homes bought so far.

This uptake is normal, said Marla Zucht, general manager of the Whistler Housing Authority (WHA), especially considering the 219 WHA homes at Cheakamus Crossing have enlarged the inventory.

According to Zucht, two of the single-family homes offered in Phase I of the Rainbow sales and 13 of the duplexes are still up for grabs. The Rainbow team has contacted everyone on the WHA waitlist.

“None of the (Rainbow) contracts have fallen through,” said Zucht.

“But certainly from the initial sign up of people on our waitlist, people that had been signed for Rainbow, some of those people have bought in Cheakamus Crossing for various different reasons, whether it is price or an easier financing model.”

Added Zucht, at this point only one of the possible 30 homes has gone to someone not on the WHA waitlist. That secondary purchaser was a local resident.

At the end of construction, the new Rainbow neighbourhood, next to Alpine Meadows and across from Whistler Secondary School, will consist of 80 duplexes and 70 single-family homes.

Zucht said that the second phase of selling will not likely get underway until at least spring, but prices for single family homes in the next phase are already available on the neighbouhood’s website at www.rainbowatwhistler.ca.
