The last week has seen a rash of thefts in the Whistler area, including five break and enters at local residences, and several missing skis, snowboards, and snowmobiles.

The break and enters were in the 2300 block of Nordic Drive, the 7000 block of Nesters Road, the 3300 block of Ptarmigan Place, and the 2500 block of Whistler Road and Garibaldi drive.

The Whistler/Pemberton RCMP are once again reminding skiers and boarders to lock up their gear after three pairs of skis and three snowboards went missing over the weekend. A pair of skis were taken from the base of the Whistler Village gondola, another pair from Building 5 of staff housing, and another pair from the ticket booth area by the Wizard Chair. The snowboards went missing from the area outside the IGA, the Excalibur Gondola, and the secure area at the Executive Inn. A lock was only used in one of these incidents, which was cut by the thief or thieves.

In addition to homes and gear, a number of stolen snowmobiles have also been reported this winter season.

In some cases, the sleds are on a trailer and the thief or thieves have disconnected the trailers from vehicles and driven away with them. In some cases, the truck has gone missing along with the trailer and the sleds.

To protect your property, the RCMP recommends keeping your snowmobiles and trailer in a secure place and locking them at all times. Backing your vehicle into your driveway or a storage area can also help by making it harder for thieves.

Getting to know your neighbours and keeping an eye out for one another can also help lessen the chance that you will lose something as big and obvious as a trailer or sled.
