The Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival and Easter long weekend made for a busy weekend in the village for local RCMP, although there were no major incidents to report.
On the first weekend of the festival the RCMP handed out 43 tickets for open liquor. On the second weekend that jumped to 112 tickets, which is about 10 times higher than the average for a weekend.
There were four tickets for obstructing police officers and four tickets for urinating in public. As well there were 10 violation tickets related to liquor, and four tickets for minors in bars.
Over the two weekends 36 prisoners were held in custody, which is roughly double the weekend average.
The large number of ticketed offenders was a result of a heavy police presence in the village, bolstered by RCMP officers from outside the community.
Composite sketch released of offender
On April 4, the RCMP received a report of a man who was masturbating along the Valley Trail between Brio and Whistler Village. He tried to talk to a female walking home just before midnight. She then went home and called the police. The RCMP searched the area and the village but did not find anyone matching the suspect's description. He is described as five-foot-eleven with a black leather jacket, black ball cap and jeans, and this week the RCMP released a composite sketch of the suspect, who may or may not be involved in other similar lewd acts around Whistler. Women arrested after bathroom brawl
On April 23, just after midnight, the RCMP received a report from the door staff at a local nightclub regarding three women that were assaulted in the bathroom. The suspects were located soon afterwards in a hotel and arrested. Facing charges for assault are a 31-year-old woman from Burnaby and a 24-year-old woman from Vancouver.
The police are still obtaining statements, but say the incident stemmed from a verbal argument in the washroom.
Man pays for car damage to avoid charges
An intoxicated male paid $800 in damages rather than faces criminal charges after kicking a car door in anger in the early morning hours of April 21.
According to the RCMP the man got out of a cab and said he would get ride in another vehicle, although he didn't know the occupants. The driver of that vehicle pushed him away and he kicked the door in retaliation. A fight ensued and the drunken male later required stitches after he was floored by a punch.
The man was taken to the health care centre for stitches and then brought back to police cells for stitches.
Couple charged for counterfeit $100s
At 11:30 p.m. on April 22 the RCMP received a call from door staff regarding a couple that had tried to pass a counterfeit $100 bill. The RCMP attended and located the couple, and several more counterfeit bills were recovered.
The suspects, a male and female in their early 20s and from the Lower Mainland, are being charged with passing counterfeit money.
It's not clear if the suspects are the same male and female who were passing counterfeit $100 bills at local retailers two weeks ago.
