Local RCMP kicked off a weekly speaker series on Monday, with a discussion on senior safety.

The Community Discussion Group series is set to take place every Monday night from 6 to 7 p.m. for the next six weeks at the Whistler Health Care Centre.

The goal of the series is to educate the public from a policing point of view, and to help gain insight into people’s concerns.

Topics for discussion will range from drinking and driving, youth and police working together, and education on drug abuse and Internet safety.

Cst. Dustin Kerr will host next week’s discussion on home security, which is being touted as an important issue for Whistler residents, given the number of break and enters that have recently taken place in the community.

Anyone interested in learning tips to deter crimes against their property or voicing concerns on this issue are invited to attend.
